Useful Ways to Use Your Screen Recorder

Screen recording can be a valuable tool on all of your devices. Screen recording proves useful when you're either creating content or simply looking to share a segment of a live video.

Screen recording makes a video of anything that is happening on your screen. Once you activate a recording, anything you see on your monitor or phone screen will be recorded into a video.

Create Tutorials

One of the most common uses for screen recordings is to create tutorials on how to complete a task on a computer or mobile device. Since the screen recording captures all of the actions happening on screen it is a great tool to show others how to do a specific task.

Record Meetings, Webinars, and Podcasts

Capturing a screen recording of a Zoom meeting or online webinar can be a useful way to go back and review the content you watched. If you are recording your own content, a screen recording can help you capture live events like a business meeting, online webinar, or podcast. With many creators using their iPhone as a webcam, screen recording can make it easy to capture live videos that can be used as reference or marketing material.

Capture Key Moments of Larger Videos

If you want to capture highlights or important moments from larger videos, screen recordings are a great way to go. Screen recording a small portion of a video while it plays on your phone is an easy to highlight the most important portion of a video. Framedrop.ai also makes it easy to create short videos that are perfect for sharing your highlights on social media.

How To Screen Record on Any Device

While there are plenty of third-party apps and programs that can record your device’s screen, most major computers and phones have a screen recording tool already built in. Here is everything you need to know to access your device’s screen recording tool so you can start making videos now.

How to Screen Record on iPhone and iPad

Screen recording on an iPhone is easy and can be done without the use of any third-party apps. To begin a screen recording on an iPhone you first must open the control center. To open the control center, simply swipe down from the top of your phone’s screen.

Once the control center is open, you will need to find the screen record button. The gray concentric circles on the bottom of the menu. Hitting that button will trigger the screen recording. A three-second timer will countdown and the screen recording will begin.

After you have finished recording your screen, you can end the recording by opening the control center menu and pressing the red screen record button. Your recording will be saved in your iPhone or iPad videos for easy access.

How to Screen Record on Android

As long as you are using Android 11 or newer, your Android device has a built-in screen recorder that is easy to use to create videos of the content on your screen. Older devices may require a third-party app to capture a screen recording.

To capture a screen recording on an Android device, start by swiping down on the notification shade at the top of your screen. This will open the quick setting options on your Android device. Once your quick setting menu is open, look for the screen recording button which features an image of a camcorder in a frame.

When you hit that button, you will be prompted with a menu of screen recorder options. Choose if you would like your video to capture your device’s sounds, your device's sounds, and your mic, or no sound at all. When you have your preferred option chosen, you can hit the button on the bottom right that says, “Start Recording”.

You will receive a three-second countdown before the recording begins and the screen recording toolbar pops on the screen. The toolbar allows you to pause or stop your recording. Certain Android devices will allow you to draw on the screen to add notes and highlights as well as turn on your front-facing camera to add voice-over to your video.

When you are finished, press the stop button and your video will automatically be saved to your device’s video storage.

How to Screen Record on Windows

Windows PCs use a program called a Snipping Tool that allows users to capture pictures and video recordings of their screens. To open the Snipping Tool in Windows, start by opening the start menu.

You can find the snipping tool by typing it into the search bar of the Window’s start menu. When opened, the snipping tool will present a toolbar at the top of your screen. You can use this toolbar to take both screenshots and screen recordings. To start your screen recording, press the Record button. This will prompt a drop-down menu. To begin a new screen recording press New.

Once a new recording is selected, you will need to use the drag-and-drop rectangle tool to select the portion of your screen you would like to record. You can select the entire screen or a smaller area depending on your needs.

When you have chosen the portion of the screen you want to record press Start. After a 3-second countdown, your recording will begin. When you are finished press the Stop button on the Snipping tool toolbar. Your video will automatically be saved to your Video folder when finished.

Screen recording with the Snipping Tool only allows you to capture video without sound and does not yet feature an easy keyboard shortcut like screenshots.

How to Screen Record on Mac

You can take both screenshots and screen recordings with Mac’s built-in tool called Screenshot.  To open Screenshot you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift-Command-5 or find it in the Launchpad menu.

The Screenshot toolbar will appear, and you will have the option to record your entire screen or a selected portion. Choose the option that best fits your needs. After you select what is going to be recorded you can open the options tab to select where your video will be saved, if you want your video to include audio or microphone input, and if you want your mouse pointer to be visible.

After you have chosen your preferred settings, press the record button to start your recording. When you are finished press the Stop button in the Screenshot toolbar and your video will be saved to the selected location.
